Citizens India Foundation (CIF) joined hands with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) the Ayroor Panchayat and prominent citizens of Ayroor on treating a group of 20 foreign scholars from all over the world studying in different colleges in Kerala to Onam Festivities and the colourful snakeboat carnival – Jana Maithri Jalosavam at Ayroor – Puthiyakav on 08th September 2014.
Shri. T.K.A. Nair, Managing Trustee of CIF who took the initiative in conceiving and organising the event in consultation with Director General of ICCR Shri. Suresh Mehta received the guest-students at the Marthoma Church Centre, Cherukolpuzha on the picturesque bank of Pampa. The local citizens welcomed the students enthusiastically adn treated them to a sumptuous onam feast. On reaching Ayroor – Puthiyakav Kadav, the starting point of the Jalolsava, the foreign-guests were welcomed by the Panchayat President Advocate Sreelatha Harikumar adn other local dignitaries. The Colourful Jalolsava was an exciting water carnival which the guest-students thoroughly enjoyed. For them, it was a life-time experience. The Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha Shri. P.J. Kurian honoured them with traditional shawls.
After watching the Jalolsavathe guest-students interacted with prominent local citizens over high-tea. They greatly appreciated the CIF initiative and thanked ICCR and Ayroor Panchayat for arranging their visit. This first ever event in keraka received wide publicity and appreciation.
